Alma Dervisevic, Founder and President, is a cat lover with an animal care and nutrition background, also a pharmacist by profession. One summer afternoon Alma was at her backyard bbq, and rescued a one-day old, mal formed kitten. The kitten seemed to be lleft to die by her feral mom. Alma named her Gnocchi and took her home despite knowing that taking in a one-day old kitten was an extraordinarily difficult task, mainly because kittens under 8 weeks have a high probability of dying, even if one watches them closely.

Alma strived to keep her little Gnocchi alive by feeding her the best food available in the market at that date. At six months of age Gnocchi could not walk due to rapid weight gain from consuming mainly commercial dry and canned food. This rapid weight gain resulted in worsening of Gnocchi's congenital disorder (bilateral patellar luxation and hip dysplasia) to a point that she wasn't able to walk anymore. Also, Gnocchi developed osteoarthritis secondarily to her congenital disorder.

When taken to the veterinarian, the veterinarian said Gnocchi would need surgery if she doesn't lose weight. This would lessen Gnocchi's quality of life because even with surgery this would not guarantee that Gnocchi could live a normal cat's life. Alma went searching high and low for any treatment and in doing so she came across the study of feral cats and how so many illnesses were preventable and treated by their natural way of eating in the wild.

Their diets were consistent of raw protein from carcasses including flesh, bone, skin, fat, fluid and organs. Alma then took these findings and thought to herself to try and mimic this diet as closely as she could. Alma being a pharmacist knew how to break down nutritional content in each ingredient and how much her little Gnocchi would need. Fegnion Rare-Nutrition was Gnocchi's only food. Four years later Gnocchi grew up to be a healthy and loveable companion for Alma. Gnocchi, the motivation behind creating Fegnion Rare-Nutrition.
